Alternative Lifestyle = Dungeon or Renaissance Nerd?
I have to throw this out there just to see what comes back… Why is it that BDSM, fetish and poly amorous communities both online and off seem to be synonymous with D&D players, Renaissance fanatics and otherwise anachronistic addicts? It seems that everywhere I turn in this alternative lifestyle, girls are dressed in corsets and chainmail while the men are referred to as Lords, Sires, Fathers of the House of BlahBlah. Very rarely do I ever find a couple who seems “normal”. Who doesn’t refer to their friends as a guild or ask what my power animal is. Even more rare is someone who can comprehend that I am collared every minute of every day and nobody around us has figured it out. Maybe it’s because I don’t look like I just left the ren-fair therefore I don’t fit the stereotypes others have so graciously created?
I’m not trying to knock other people’s lifestyles, really. I think I’m just frustrated at the thought that since we do not fit into these stereotypes, it’s hard for us to find like-minded, OPEN minded individuals and couples that understand the dynamics of our relationship that we can befriend and be 100% comfortable around. Where are all the blue collar Doms and PTA subs? The graphic designers and entertainers, bartenders and store managers? Or are they all really running knife shops and selling patchouli at the mall?

Lol i see the common “stereotypes” as do you. We do not play D&D but both did as kids, no major Renaissance obsession, or such. i am a typical high powered business woman, Sir a disabled Vet, with 3 kids, 3 dogs, 2 boas, a cat. We are sadly very of the norm until you get to know us!
